Port Sultan Qaboos is undergoing re-development. As a primer for the wider development plan, the Bazzar Al Mina project occupies an existing industrial maintenance shed at the port and takes reference from internationally renowned markets such as Covent Garden Market (London) and The Watershed (Cape Town V&A Waterfront) to create a unique, vibrant destination within easy reach from the Muttrah Corniche in Muscat.

The proposal avoids an over-designed aesthetic in favour of a light-touch that provides a platform for a dynamic, energetic and organic market destination  – a shop window for Omani designers, artists, crafts and SME’s. High quality retail units and market stalls of varying sizes line naturally lit internal ‘streets’ and external landscapes are activated with shaded seating and play areas that retain the memory of the working port.  This initial phase of work will be complete by November 2016.
